We started the day off by sneaking into her room about 5 AM to COVER her bed in rose petals Kitty had bought from the local floral wholesaler. She awoke to the soft fragrance of the flowers and the warmth of her little sister's arms.
She had a special "mini-cake" for breakfast - blue frosting outside and orange frosting inside. She got a call from her Noni at 8:15. "thanks Noni, I have to go to school now."
She took her classmates cupcakes and her mom came to school.
"Daddy I went to my favorite restaurant for lunch today." Where? "Noodles and Company, of course!" Joan let me get "large noodles, and ate it all." For dinner, the family tradition: a meal at Mama Lucia's. Nora had pizza, gnocchi and of course, the "red bread" - garlic bread with tomato sauce. Ice cream at home. and before bed this gem for Kitty: "Mommy, thank you for the wonderful birthday."
Nora was excited for today. She had gone to bed very eager to "wake up and be 5."
Hard to believe 5 years ago we were broken up over Mary and forcing her to share her world with another. So hard to imagine life without Nora and who Mary would be even without Nora. Hard to forget all our worries washed away in tears of joy when during Mary's first encounter with Nora, she climbed into her bassinet to give her a hug. Mary showed us the way. Nora took it all in.
Nora is a treasure. She is a jewel. She is a sweetheart. She has fueled our lives. She has sweetened our days. She has warmed our hearts. She is an integral part of this family. Strong willed, independent, determined, irrationally passionate, hilarious and joyful. She is a challenge and a dream. And most important: she is ours!
We love you Nora. Mary, Tess, Mommy and me. With every fiber in our hearts. And with every passing day we fall more in love with you.
You are the most beautiful 5-year old I have ever seen. Happy Birthday, Nobi, Nori, Chica, Chicklet, mini-smudge, BG, BBG, and every other name we call you. Happy Birthday to you.
